CHRISTOPHER CURRAN

Co-Executive Director
 

Christopher is a maintenance worker, Teamster Union Leader and Chief Union Negotiator for the Town of Lewisboro Maintenance department. He and his wife, Jessica Curran, currently serve as Co-Executive Directors of Kindness Over Muscular Dystrophy, a non-profit they founded after their son, Conner, was diagnosed with Duchenne. Christopher is a well-respected member of the Duchenne community whose tireless energy and positive attitude have been instrumental in driving awareness and raising funds to effectuate change for Duchenne patients and their families.

 

Christopher has built strong working relationships with DMD patient groups, the Duchenne scientific community, and has successfully networked with other Duchenne non-profits and industry partners to fund cutting edge research. Christopher’s ability to network and identify critical needs in the Duchenne space has made a profound difference in keeping vital research alive. 

 

Working directly with Governor Ned Lamont, Christopher, participated in a campaign to have the Governor sign a proclamation proclaiming that the state of Connecticut recognizes September 7th as World Duchenne Awareness Day. With that proclamation, Connecticut, became the second state in the nation to recognize World Duchenne Day.

 

Christopher visits Washington DC yearly and has worked closely with Connecticut elected officials to advocate for Duchenne appropriations to fund promising NIH research initiatives, and he has successfully advocated for 2 million dollars of Labor, Health and Human Services community funding for Connecticut DMD research facilities. Additionally, he has testified in front of the Federal Advisory Committee on Heritable Disorders in Newborns and Children regarding the importance of Duchenne newborn screening.

 

Christopher has been asked to speak at events led by Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy, The MDA, and Pfizer. Christopher has also been interviewed by NPR, Pix 11NY, Fox CT, News 12 CT, NBC CT, Stat News, Science Magazine, Leaps Magazine, USA Today, the Boston Globe, the Connecticut Post, the Hartford Courant, the Ridgefield Press and the Lewisboro Ledger about his experiences raising a son with Duchenne, participating in a Duchenne gene therapy clinical trial, and how the ACA, Medicare and NIH funding impacts his family. 

 

Christopher attended Salve Regina University and currently lives in Ridgefield, Connecticut with his wife, Jessica Curran, and their three children. Kyle, Conner and William.
